Some folk will recognize the term ‘Blue Light’ as the name of Delta before it was Delta. A much smaller group of folk could tell you of what it takes to enter the assessment program. Perhaps 1 in several million Americans know what its like to serve in this unit.
Unlike SEALS, these folk walk quietly on God’s earth. Rarely will we know where they’ve been and what they’ve done. So now Sergeant Major Payne’s deeds have come to light and America is again reminded of what a badassery is, what a hero’s deeds are composed of.
I can’t help but wonder which is the greater honor for SGM Payne, being accepted into Delta or being awarded the MOH? Given Payne’s comments, I believe it to be the former. He said: “I look forward to serving as a guardian of this medal,” Payne said. “I just want to be a man who wears it well.”
