There are many places like this here in my neck of the woods. Every time I drive past one of these old homesteads I think of who might have lived there and what their lives were like.
Time and life has moved on and the earth reclaims what these folk scratched from the it in the course of their lives.

Our Wants and Needs
The Outrage of the Played
Yesterday marked the 1st anniversary of my retirement date. Retirement is great not only because I no longer have to drag my ass into work each day but also because it allows me the time and freedom to contemplate this beautiful existence God has created.
So, after some contemplation that retirement has afforded me, I’ve come to the conclusion that all of the major broadcast news outlets have become very effective at hooking their individual audiences through outrage. Outrage is a very powerful emotion, and when evoked generates chemical reactions that can, I suppose, become quite addictive.
Fox news had a major segment on a sculpture of Mickey D on a cross this morning. They were suitably outraged and demanded that we be outraged as well (else-wise, how could we be a good Christian?).
So many of the news articles produced on Fox or CNN or MSNBC or whoever are not really news events at all, rather they are events specifically selected, slanted and broadcast to generate outrage in their audience. That outrage produces an addictive chemical in the viewer and he/she returns to the source of that outrage to get another ‘fix’. In short, we’re all being played. Our soma is outrage and it is dished out by powerful forces who are more interested in obtaining power and wealth than in producing evenhanded reporting
We are reinforced in our conservativism (or liberalism) by bad people who know exactly how to press the right emotional buttons. Watch, assess, become emotionless at what is being spoon fed to you and see if the world does not become a more intriguing and less unsettled place.

Lindsey, Return To What Works
At first I thought Lindsey Graham was a slow learner and would eventually realize that strength came from exhibiting a little backbone. Of late, however, I’ve come to think that his failing comes from a personal trait that influences him to attempt to solve problems. It is an admirable attribute but, unfortunately, it requires one to first identify the true problem. In terms of the shutdown over the southern border the problem is not the funding or some moral imperative, it’s raw quest for power by Nancy and Chuck.
Put on your big-boy panties Lindsey, show the same backbone you exhibited during the Kavanaugh hearings, and relish achieving what is best in life.

Meet Arturo Martinez, a registered sex offender with surgically implanted horns in his head. He’s been arrested for trying to lure a 17-year-old girl, along with other women, into his home.
Police said he used a fake name and disguised his voice to make himself sound like a woman.
He is also accused of contacting babysitting, cleaning, taxi, estate agents and delivery services in an effort to lure women.
Not An Honest Mistake
“The ruling class doesn’t care about public safety. Having made it very difficult for States and localities to police themselves, having left ordinary citizens with no choice but to protect themselves as best they can, they now try to take our guns away. In fact they blame us and our guns for crime. This is so wrong that it cannot be an honest mistake.”

The Kingdom in Thomas
Here is a very shallow look at how the ‘kingdom’ is treated in the Gospel of Thomas.
Thomas has some pretty sketchy things to say about what the ‘kingdom’ is like (not where it is or how to get in, etc). I use the term ‘sketchy’ because I found them pretty hard to reconcile one against another and with how the term ‘kingdom’ is used.
There are 8 sayings where Jesus says what the kingdom is like. While I assume they are all talking about the ‘kingdom of heaven’, they are not titled that way, the sayings identify ‘it’ (I’m not sure that heaven is being used in this gospel the same way I think of heaven) three different ways and the ‘kingdom of heaven’ are words that are not spoken by Jesus in this gospel, they are spoken by the apostles.
The apostles only ask one question on what the kingdom of heaven is like, it is in the 20th saying . Jesus responds by saying it is like a mustard seed. In every other mention (7 mentions) of the ‘kingdom’, Jesus compares it to a person (both male and female).
In every other instance where he describes what the kingdom is like, it is not in response to a question (although I suppose there was some question asked that he was responding to). The ‘kingdom of the father’ is used 5 times ( 57, 76, 96, 97 and 98). and It is described as a person with some attribute or performing some action.
Kingdom of the Father
–a man who had good seed
— a merchant who had a consignment
— a woman who took a little leaven
–a woman who was carrying a jar
–a man who wanted to kill
Twice Jesus describes what ‘the kingdom’ is like. Not the kingdom of heaven, and not the kingdom of the father, just the kingdom. These occur in Sayings 107 and 109.
— a shepherd who had a hundred sheep
— a man who had a hidden treasure
I’m not even close to figuring out what these sayings mean. I strongly believe that they may mean different things to different folk (frame of reference and all that). In any case these words have me pondering on the nature of God and, while I lack the capacity to understand the full nature of Him, the contemplation does yield good fruit, even if that fruit is the contemplation itself

Big City Blues
Not seen in my neck of the woods and it’s why I live in rural Tennessee. A society that allows this to persist, that allows their children to be exposed to this madness, will not long endure. I expect that there will soon be tremendous conflict between those portions of the nation that promote this insanity and those that recognize it as a sickness. As for my part, I’m just here for the show.

My Race/Culture in Question?
While surfing earlier I stumbled across a black nationalist (?) website that some poor downtrodden soul felt should be dedicated to criticizing the white race/culture. I cannot suggest that anyone emulate a race that is not their own, but strongly suggest that, even with the risk of being slammed for cultural appropriation, these folk undertake a careful examination of the features/benefits of various cultures and select one (or some) that have the potential to yield greater fruit than the one they seem to be so stuck in. I’ll not do you the disservice (and them the benefit) of naming the site where this graphic was found

A Reminder from Your Betters
Do not go into society unless you make up your mind to be sympathetic, unselfish, animating, as well as animated. Society does not require mirth, but it does demand cheerfulness and unselfishness, and you must help to make and sustain cheerful conversation. The manner of conversation is as important as the matter.

Karen’s Top 10
Karen Kataline has published another great article that jabs, ever so gently, at the mess our world has become. It’s below. Link to Karen’s site at Front Page here.
It’s time once again for those year-end lists when people rate everything from sports to literature. When it comes to politics and the bizarre notions from today’s Left, there is an embarrassment of riches from which to choose. Some of these ideas have hung around from the previous year and earlier because they haven’t been mocked and derided successfully by weak and wobbly Republicans.
Since Democrats had no federal legislative power in 2018, it was a banner year for advancing liberal language and cultural concepts. Make no mistake, whenever Democrats work to change our language today, it’s only the first step in their mission to change our policies tomorrow. Now that they are set to take control of the US House of Representatives, look for them to roll out those policies one after another.
Case in point: Jack Phillips of the Masterpiece Cake Shop is being persecuted because in 1992, voters thought it was kind to include “LGBT” in the list of groups protected by civil rights legislation. Even after unelected bureaucrats on the “Colorado Civil Rights Division” (CCRD) lost their case in the Supreme Court, they still believe they should have the authority to force Phillips to create a custom cake to celebrate a gender transition or be driven out of business.
You have to give the Left credit. They never act like they’re in the minority even when they are. Don’t you wish Republicans would take a lesson from them and act like they’re in the majority when they actually are?
Liberals regularly employ humor, mockery and derision with spectacular success while Republicans generally have an aversion to such tactics. In 2019, I hope more Republicans will plant and nurture their sense of humor and start putting the Left’s anti-reality ideas back where they belong—into the dustbin of spoof and sarcasm.
So without further ado, here are my favorite liberal nonsensical notions of 2018. Let the mockery begin!
10. “Gender Fluidity”
The Left has mounted a massive attack on basic gender reality. After mocking Republicans for being “anti-Science” on “climate change” they are celebrating their denial of X and Y chromosomes. On Colorado birth certificates, there are now four gender options to choose from: male, female, X and intersex. In Britain, children as young as 8 years old are being taught that boys can have periods too. “Transitions” from male to female are more celebrated than the reverse. What’s this all about? Let’s chalk it up to garden-variety misandry (hatred of men) and we’ll save more analysis for the New Year.
9. “Criticism of the media is an attack on the 1st Amendment.”
Jim Acosta actually declared that it was a threat to our 1st Amendment when President Trump exercised his 1st Amendment right to criticize them.
8. “Toxic Masculinity”
Because masculinity is and will always be a threat to socialism. (See “Gender
Fluidity”)
7. “White Privilege”
The first time you heard this, did you dismiss it as merely another load of liberal nonsense? It is, but it’s strategic and purposeful. This little ditty creates the perfect excuse to justify collective hatred toward people because of the color of their skin, by those who have been preaching tolerance and not to judge people because of the color of their skin. It’s brilliant really. How should we counter this? We could start by quoting Martin Luther King, since they don’t agree with him anymore: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
6. “Anti-Fascist” Fascists
This is the idea that fascists can be given a pass for using fascist tactics by branding the objects of their hatred as “fascists.” This is another derivative of projection at which the Left excels so predictably.
5. “Stripping for Equality”
This one combines the feminist abhorrence for objectifying women with the strategy of doing it to yourself before they can do it to you. One might think that exposing our obvious biological differences would make the case for scientific proof of gender differences but I’m sure that’s not what they have in mind.
4. “Safe” drug injection sites
This is a beaut and it’s coming to a city near you. Remember all the money spent on the “war on drugs?” Like most utopian-titled government monstrosities, it didn’t work. So Liberals are now advocating government-sanctioned “sites” where “people who inject IV drugs” can defy federal law and shoot up “safely.” You must not call them junkies as that might stigmatize them. Liberals save all their stigma for Republicans. For more on this, see: Making Suicidal Behavior “Safe”
3. “Victim Feminism”
From “I am woman, hear me roar,” to “I am woman, hear me whine.” Suddenly, Feminists have become the new puritans. In the service of their newest political agenda, they are shoving women back into gilded cages. Their main audience has no conception of history, so they are never mocked for this hypocritical about-face. That, and they don’t mind being hypocritical anyway.
2. “Intersectionality”
Another brilliant political tactic designed to claim moral superiority for what is actually intellectual laziness and the use of gross generalizations. (Didn’t liberals used to rail against that? Oh, never mind.) This encourages black civil rights activists to be as passionate about the environment and gay marriage as they are about race, and feminists to advocate in favor of men using women’s bathrooms.
1. The politics of “ists” and “obes.”
This of course, is the smear for all occasions. It can and will be used against you if you disagree with any of the preposterous ideas above. You don’t accept gay marriage? You’re a homophobe. You don’t agree with open borders? You’re a xenophobe. You dare to disagree with a black liberal even though they shred and destroy every black conservative? You of course, are a Racist! Racist! Racist!
How do you fight these ridiculous and ubiquitous ideas? First things first: Laugh!

Lunacy
We don’t see much of this out here in rural Tennessee. Every once in a while one of these idiots will take a wrong turn and wander into the area.
They don’t spring naturally from the environment, they are tweaked/warped into the creatures they have become by a society that encourages and reinforces their sickness.
Folks out here just don’t raise their children in a way that warps them so badly that they grow to accept the bizarre as acceptable or rational.
Unfortunately this will get worse, much worse, as the line that circumscribes moral and just behavior further fades. This is one of the many reasons that I live in rural Tennessee
