In Your Neck Of The Woods

BLM is branching out somewhat and assaulting homes in the burbs. I guess the strategy is now to stretch police response requirements into a broadly dispersed geographical area. This frees up retail targets in the city.

Now that it is no longer vogue to defend ones home from these creatures (dems are getting the hand of the grand jury processes) we’ll see more and more of this.

Much Like Worf?

I’m beginning to believe that the apostles of Christ as portrayed in the Gospel of Thomas are the Worfs of the ancient world. Almost every time they are mentioned it is in a derogatory way and every question they ask is either left unanswered or answered while chastising them. It’s almost as if Jesus realizes he got stuck with the B Team of humanity when selecting Apostles and is unhappy about it.

What Does Forever Look Like?

Is there an infinite amount of time? Must matter exist for time to exist? Will the universe continue to replicate?

Here are some of Roger Penrose’s thoughts

An earlier universe existed before the Big Bang and can still be observed today, Sir Roger Penrose said, as he received the Nobel Prize for Physics.  He says he has found six ‘warm’ points in the sky (dubbed ‘Hawking Points’) which are around eight times the diameter of the Moon. Sir Roger believes that ‘dead’ black holes are from earlier universes or ‘aeons’ and are observable now.

The Big Bang was not the beginning. There was something before the Big Bang and that something is what we will have in our future.

“We have a universe that expands and expands, and all mass decays away, and in this crazy theory of mine, that remote future becomes the Big Bang of another aeon.  So our Big Bang began with something which was the remote future of a previous aeon and there would have been similar black holes evaporating away, via Hawking evaporation, and they would produce these points in the sky, that I call Hawking Points.”

An Ear-Bug | First Saying | A Plug For Science

I woke up this morning with one of those ear-bugs that just won’t go away. Not a song or lyric this time but rather the first true saying in the Gospel of Thomas (I choose to count saying 1 as a portion of the prologue). Here is the Blatz translation:

“He who seeks, let him not cease seeking until he finds; and when he finds he will be troubled, and when he is troubled he will be amazed, and he will reign over the All.”

If you were to go here, you’d find four other interpretations from the 4 source documents found in two different locations and in two different languages. Some of the interpretations demonstrate interesting alternative readings of certain portions of the short saying, for instance the last few words of each translation from the Coptic are:

reign over the all
reign over the entirety
reign over the universe

What I find so interesting about the saying is both what I think it means and, given what it means, that it would be the first saying. What do I think it means? I don’t think that in this instance the saying is talking to the seeking of the kingdom of God, rather that we discover and wonder at the world that God created. It is an explicit call for scientific discovery.

This text with it’s 114 sayings was lost for a couple of thousand years. The first saying urging man to discover this world. Meanwhile, for many of those two thousand years the leaders of the christian movement did what they could to diminish the importance of understanding our world.

This saying perfectly tee’s up the saying that immediately follows it.

Making Nancy Salivate

Right on que the folk in the forth estate have generated a combined push to paint the Trumpster as worthy of exercising the 25th amendment. How else could we account for the broad range of stories about his erratic behavior and stories detailing how covid affects folks mental capacity.

There is this from a relatively:
–unknown reporter,
–at an unknown news outlet
–about unverified data
–and where the data itself is so cherry picked that it boggles the mind (The study looked at the records of the first 509 coronavirus patients hospitalized, from March 5 to April 6, at 10 hospitals in the Northwestern Medicine health system in the Chicago area. )

Now here comes the scare: “Nearly a third of hospitalized Covid-19 patients experienced some type of altered mental function — ranging from confusion to delirium to unresponsiveness — in the largest study to date of neurological symptoms among coronavirus patients in an American hospital system.

From Vanity Fair a story that I initially thought was a joke because of the number of time it said according to a source, or sources said,:

One area where the family seems united is over the president’s manic tweeting early Monday morning. After Trump sent out more than a dozen all-caps tweets, the Trump children told people they want Trump to stop. “They’re all worried. They’ve tried to get him to stop tweeting,” a source close to the family told me.

The Trump family’s private concern about Trump’s behavior could raise questions about his fitness for office. Trump has been prescribed drugs that medical experts say can seriously impair his cognitive function. Last night the New York Times reported that steroids, which Trump is reportedly taking, specifically dexamethasone, are known to “affect mood, causing euphoria or a general happiness.”

M1A Essentials

I purchased the mount from Bassett about 6 years ago and it works better than most anything else on the market. If you’ve ever fired a M14/M1A you’ll understand why most all scope mounts fail. Hard to believe this simply designed bracket works so well and holds zero both while mounted and when removed and remounted.

Cheek pad is next as using a scope on my M1A completely removes the cheek weld. Nothing worse than having a scope on a National Match grade thunder stick and not being able to go sub MOA on three round groups.

Down 2 Thirds, Salary to Follow?

NBA Finals Game 2 Ratings Crash by 68%, Least Watched Finals Game in History.

Both Game 1 and Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the L.A. Lakers and the Miami Heat have suffered the worst ratings crash in the league’s entire TV broadcast history.

Despite the matchup including two of the league’s biggest stars (LeBron James and Anthony Davis), Game 1 of the Finals on Wednesday was a huge ratings disappointment for the NBA.

Game 1 averaged only a 4.1 rating and 7.41 million viewers on ABC, “comfortably the lowest rated and least-watched NBA Finals game on record (dates back to 1988),” Sports Media Watch reported.

But if the league thought things might improve for Game 2, it had a bitter pill to swallow because the second in the series did even worse than the first.

Game 2 cratered with just 4.5 million viewers and a dismal 1. 9 in the ratings. This embarrassing showing was down 68 percent over Game 2 in 2019. Not down to 68 percent, down 68 percent. They lost 2/3rds of their viewing audience.

Now lets see if the miserable sons of bitches loose 2/3rds of their salary !

Get’n Woke and Go’n Broke

The opening game of the series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat brought 7.41 million viewers to ABC, the smallest audience for the finals since at least 1994, when total viewers began to be regularly recorded. The previous low was 8.06 million for Game 3 of the 2007 NBA Finals.

It would be a shame if the whole friggin league went broke and the holier-than-thou players learned to shut their mouths and just dribble the ball.

Slow, But Not Joe Slow

The postings have been slim over the last couple of days, the next few look like they will be just as spartan. I’ve got 90 bales of hay cut, raked, and baled in my front pasture. Not the little square pocket size bales, the 5X5 rounds. I’ll get them moved into the hay barn in the next day or so.

It’s slow going sometimes, but its slow because of the tasks, not because I’m ‘Joe Slow’ . Joe Slow you ask? It’s kinda/sorta like the little video below.

I’ve been busting my ass with the zero turn mower and weed eater again, this time around the cabin and near the creek. The ground is so steep in many places that it has to be cut by backing down the hills. A zero turn on steep grade (going face first) is nothing more than an uncontrollable skid. The picture below s about 3/4 of the way down to the creek from my cabin.

This picture was taken near the place the picture above was (I moved 20 yards or so to the right), Note how fast the land falls away from the cabin on the right side.

Finally, this is a picture taken up by the cabin looking down to the creek.

The point of all of this, if there is a point at all, is that cutting and weed-eating around my little chunk of paradise is time consuming and pushes other task to the rear burner. Thus: slow posting !

Along Alabama Highway 99

This was once a stately manor a few paces off of 99 just south and east of Salem AL. I suppose the land that lays to the south of it (to my back as I took this picture) was part of estate. That land has been cleared for many, many years and runs about a mile to the Elk River.

At night a light still burns in the single story (right side of picture) portion of the home and despite the state of decay I’m guessing that some elderly person still inhabits the tired old home. There is a man that comes by every week to mow and trim and clean up around the place.
