Moonlight
Every once in a while things come together in an unexpected way to create a little magic. Last night was one of those times. Each of the images below is how the camera took the picture. No post processing, no special tricks with the camera, just placed it on the tripod and snapped away. The camera was on ‘auto-focus’ and it picked the aperture opening and shutter speed.
Yesterday it drizzled rain all day and there was heavy cloud cover. Combined with the day long high winds it was both gloomy and uncomfortable. Just after nightfall the clouds began to clear and the nearly full moon appeared. The low clouds were still flying across the sky (north to south) presenting a really spectacular sight. I did not expect that any of the shots I took would come out, but several really interrelated photographic elements came together. In the photo above, the porch lights were faintly shining on the trees in the foreground and the shutter was (of its own accord) open for 4 to 6 seconds. With the shutter open so long, the fast moving clouds blurred. In the photo below, I moved the camera and tripod up the hill and away from the cabin a bit.
