The Followers of Thomas’ Gospel
The author of the Gospel of Thomas understood Jesus as a teacher who spoke with authority. The gospel celebrated his memory by preserving sayings in his name that sanctioned the formation of a distinctive community. The gospel situates its follower’s position within the Christian tradition as an independent movement. This movement persisted over the course of several generations without becoming an apocalyptic sect or attempting to convert a following. Even so, the gospel maintained its autonomy and distinct identity. In Thomas, Jesus was characterized as the embodiment of wisdom; his words, which could harness the very power of the universe, offered a path of ‘knowing’ as an investment of the imagination.
Followers of this gospel would have structured their society such that processes were developed where wisdom, insight and research could flourish. It seems logical the gospel, to this group, charted a the course to salvation as a study in interpretation of the sayings it provides. It provided the elixir of life to those for whom the secret of the kingdom is disclosed in the interpretation of Jesus’ words.

Patrick O’Donnell is a great military historian that writes in a simple, direct. and compelling way on the many events he recounts. He posts at Breitbart and his most recent article is on the closing hours of the ‘War to End All Wars’. It begins with:
One hundred years ago this weekend, Allied commanders ordered U.S. Marines and Army personnel to attempt a perilous night crossing of the Meuse River and assault the heavily defended German positions on the far side. Prescient, General Black Jack Pershing foresaw the possible rise of Germany and wanted to make it clear the Allies had won the war by seizing more German-controlled territory. Scores of men would die in an attack that ultimately proved a tragic loss of life.

California Now a Living Hell
Wildfires are spreading so quickly that firefighters couldn’t hope to stop them. One quadrupled in size yesterday after destroying several thousand buildings and leveling much of a Northern California town of nearly 30,000 people. LEO’s report that at least nine people were found dead in vehicles torched by wildfire flames as they tried to escape. A wind-driven wildfire also raged through Southern California communities on Friday, burning homes and forcing thousands of people to flee as it relentlessly pushed toward Malibu and the Pacific Ocean.

The Wookie and the Trumpster
The Wookie has a new book about to be released. In it she whines about The Donald and how he could have placed her family at risk. It reads:
“The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed. But it was also dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks,” she writes. “What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.”
A reporter made the mistake of asking Trump about her assertion. His response is exactly what you would expect from the leader of the free world:
“Oh, Michelle Obama said that, I haven’t seen it, I guess she wrote a book, she got paid a lot of money to write a book, and they always insist you come up with controversial — well, I’ll give you a little controversy back. I’ll never forgive him for what he did to our United States military by not funding it properly,” Trump told reporters on the South Lawn. “It was depleted. And everything was old and tired,” the president continued. “And I came in and I had to fix it, and I’m in the process of spending tremendous amounts of money. So I’ll never forgive him for what he did to our military. I’ll never forgive him for what he did in many other ways, which I’ll talk to you about in the future. What he did, because she talked about safety. What he did to our military made this country very unsafe.”

Another John McCrae
An uphill path, sun-gleams between the showers,
Where every beam that broke the leaden sky
Lit other hills with fairer ways than ours;
Some clustered graves where half our memories lie;
And one grim Shadow creeping ever nigh:
And this was Life.
Wherein we did another’s burden seek,
The tired feet we helped upon the road,
The hand we gave the weary and the weak,
The miles we lightened one another’s load,
When, faint to falling, onward yet we strode:
This too was Life.
Till, at the upland, as we turned to go
Amid fair meadows, dusky in the night,
The mists fell back upon the road below;
Broke on our tired eyes the western light;
The very graves were for a moment bright:
And this was Death.
Lest We Forget: In Flanders Field
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Self Defense Quote Du Jour
“The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”

The 51st Saying in the Gospel of Thomas
Blatz: His disciples said to him: On what day will the rest of the dead come into being, and on what day will the new world come? He said to them: What you await has come, but you do not know it.
Layton: His disciples said to him, “When will the repose of the dead come to pass, and when will the new world come?” He said to them, “That (repose) which you (plur.) are waiting for has come, but for your part you do not recognize it.”
Doresse: His disciples said to him: “On what day shall rest come to those who are dead, and on what day shall the new world come?” He said to them: “This <rest> that you wait for has (already) come, and you have not recognised it.”

Buckle-Up: It’s About to Go Over the Top
Drudge is carrying a story on Ginsburg that is sure to fan the flames on the left. While the piece did not say whether she fell out of her chair or fell while she was standing, in either case she needs to retire and spend her remaining years on the cocktail circuit. Trumps hard work at retaining the Senate looks like it will pay off in spades.
The left is going to go absolutely wild when Trump names a replacement.
The story: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85, fell in her office at the court and fractured three ribs, according to a release from the court Thursday.
“She went home, but after experiencing discomfort overnight, went to George Washington University Hospital early this morning,” the statement said. “Tests showed that she fractured three ribs on her left side and she was admitted for observation and treatment.”
Ginsburg’s health has been a matter of intense speculation in recent years. Ginsburg, the court’s oldest member, is one of the court’s four liberal justices. She is the second woman to ever serve.
It is not the first time that Ginsburg has fractured her ribs while on the court. In June 2012, Ginsburg fractured two ribs in a fall and did not disclose the incident to the public until months later. The court said at the time that despite the fracture, Ginsburg “did not skip a beat.”
And So It Begins: Nadler
Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) tweeted that House Democrats will “immediately” start investigating why President Trump removed Jeff Sessions as Attorney General on Wednesday, which could be the start of the Democrats’ impeachment efforts against Trump.
He also revealed that Democrats plan to “impeach Kavanaugh” and investigate President Donald Trump for alleged Russian collusion.
The first option, he explained, was to investigate the FBI for how they handled the uncorroborated claims from several women claiming Kavanaugh sexually assaulted them.
“They didn’t even do a half-ass job,” he said. “They didn’t interview 30 witnesses who said ‘Interview me! I’ve got a lot to say!’”
Plan B, is to go after Kavanaugh himself, because “there’s a real indication that Kavanaugh committed perjury.” He claimed Kavanaugh perjured himself when someone asked him “at a committee hearing under oath” about an article in the Atlantic revealing the allegations of a third accuser, and he denied hearing about it. Actually Nadler was referring to a claim that has has been debunked.
Nadler added that Democrats do not plan to carry out their investigation quietly: “You can’t do it quietly because word will get out that the FBI or the committee is reaching out to witnesses,” he said.
The top House Democrat then moved on to the subject of investigating Trump, which he said would be branded as holding Trump “accountable” for his actions when in reality Democrats plan to go “all in” depending on the outcome of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Liberals aim for low hanging fruit, their own spawn.
Former ESPN host and current Atlantic writer Jemele Hill, slammed white women who she says torpedoed Beto O’Rourke in the Texas Senate race.
Along with many other left-wing, progressives, Hill jumped to Twitter to note that O’Rourke lost because many white women did not vote for him on November 6.
Attacks on white women is now common place among liberals. You know that they will really eat their own, right?

The Enemy Within
Those who call for more stringent policies regarding the vetting and admission of “refugees” continue to be derided as racist and Islamophobic. Maybe they should just be called rational.
A case in point on the hazards of Islamic extremism is that wonderful American Aws Mohammed Younis al-Jayab
“America will not isolate me from my Islamic duty,” he wrote to a colleague in Syria, according to the charges. “Only death will do us part. My only wish is to see you and start the action.”
He’s been dubbed the “hipster terrorist” for the glamorous social media shots of him posing in snazzy shirts and designer sunglasses, an iced latte in hand and jacket slung casually over a shoulder.
But Aws Mohammed Younis al-Jayab cut a much different profile Wednesday in a federal courtroom in Chicago, where he wore an orange jail jumpsuit and was shackled at the ankles as he pleaded guilty to charges of aiding a terrorist organization and lying to immigration officials.
Al-Jayab, 25, a Palestinian native with ties to Wisconsin, admitted in a plea agreement with prosecutors that he flew from O’Hare International Airport to Turkey in November 2013 and then entered Syria. Once there, he joined Ansar Al-Islam, a U.S.-designated terrorist group that was a precursor to the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, according to his plea agreement.
After al-Jayab returned to the U.S. in 2014 and settled in California, he told immigration officials that he’d been overseas visiting relatives, according to the court filing.
“I wanted to do the right thing … to defend the Syrian people,” al-Jayab told U.S. District Judge Sarah Ellis Wednesday in broken English. He acknowledged, however, that he knew the group he was joining was engaged in terrorist activities and that he tried to hide his involvement when he returned….
According to the charges, al-Jayab was born in Palestine and spent much of his childhood in Iraq before coming to the U.S. as a refugee in October 2012. While living in Arizona and Wisconsin, al-Jayab communicated on social media about his intention to go to Syria to fight for terrorist organizations, according a criminal complaint filed in Sacramento, Calif.

Around Southern Middle Tennessee
We dodged the small caliber tornado bullets that whipped through the area the night before last. Not everyone in the area was as lucky, and we saw minor damage between our place and Loretto TN. While there was not that much that got tore up from the half dozen touchdowns, those that were hit didn’t have much to start with, a little damage to those that have little is devastating. No loss of lives or significant injuries.

In Florida You Can’t Fix Stupid
Miami-Dade briefly ran out of ballots Sunday for some voters at its North Miami location, as malfunctioning printers upended logistics there during the final day of early voting and had people reporting wait times topping three hours.
As the sun set on the 14th day of early voting in the largely black neighborhood, more than 200 voters were in a line that snaked around half a block outside the North Miami library. “I would have stayed in line eight hours if I had to,” Joas Laurent, 37, said as he walked out of the library at 7:20 p.m., about three hours after he said he arrived.
The printers used to generate customized ballots for a voter’s precinct failed early in the afternoon, and poll workers eventually had to turn to pre-printed ballots to let people vote, said Christina White, the county’s elections supervisor. When those ran out for two of the surrounding precincts, the county had to rush in replacements from nearby polling places. She said it’s the only time she can recall Miami-Dade running out of ballots at a voting site.
On This Sad Day In US History
On this day in 2009, 13 people are killed and more than 30 others are wounded, nearly all of them unarmed soldiers, when a U.S. Army officer goes on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood in central Texas. The deadly assault, carried out by Major Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, was the worst mass murder at a U.S. military installation.
Early in the afternoon of November 5, 39-year-old Hasan, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, shouted “Allahu Akbar” (Arabic for “God is great”) and then opened fire at a crowd inside a Fort Hood processing center where soldiers who were about to be deployed overseas or were returning from deployment received medical screenings. The massacre, which left 12 service members and one Department of Defense employee dead, lasted approximately 10 minutes before Hasan was shot by civilian police and taken into custody.
The Virginia-born Hasan, the son of Palestinian immigrants who ran a Roanoke restaurant and convenience store, graduated from Virginia Tech University and completed his psychiatry training at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, in 2003. He went on to work at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., treating soldiers returning from war with post-traumatic stress disorder. In May 2009, he was promoted to the rank of major in the Army, and that July, was transferred to Fort Hood. Located near the city of Killeen, Fort Hood, which includes 340 square miles of facilities and homes, is the largest active-duty U.S. military post. At the time of the shootings, more than 50,000 military personnel lived and worked there, along with thousands more family members and civilian personnel.ADVERTISEMENT
In the aftermath of the massacre, reviews by the Pentagon and a U.S. Senate panel found Hasan’s superiors had continued to promote him despite the fact that concerns had been raised over his behavior, which suggested he had become a radical and potentially violent Islamic extremist. Among other things, Hasan stated publicly that America’s war on terrorism was really a war against Islam.
The Enemy of the People
Zero Hedge carries a good article on the ‘Enemy of the People” that I largely agree with. It begins with:
When Trump calls the establishment media the enemies of the people, that’s because they – together with their passive NPC drones and active Antifa enforcers – are enemies, if by “the people” we mean the historic American nation. Trump’s sin is that he calls them out for what they are.
Trump didn’t cause today’s polarization, he only exacerbates it because he punches back. Good, may he continue to do so. Pining for a more well-mannered time in a country that belongs to another, long-gone era is futile.
American politics is no longer about a narrow range of governing styles or competing economic interests. It is tribal. Today’s “tribes” are defined in terms of affinity for or hostility to the founding American ethnos characterized by European, overwhelming British origin (a/k/a, “white”); Christian, mainly Protestant; and English-speaking, as augmented by members of other groups who have totally or partially assimilated to that ethnos or who at least identify with it.
Civil War from a New Vector
Breitbart is reporting that members of the New Black Panther Party are flexing muscle in Georgia. They are wielding weapons and holding signs supporting Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, a leftist who hopes to be the first black female governor in Georgia
Her republican opponent, Kemp, says “It’s no surprise that militant Black Panthers are armed and patrolling the streets of Georgia. The Black Panthers are a radical hate group with a racist and anti-semitic agenda. They are dangerous and encourage violence against our men and women in uniform. Stacey Abrams should immediately denounce the Black Panthers and their hateful record of racism. She should stand against and condemn their attempts to intimidate hardworking Georgia voters just days before the election.”
Now I don’t expect that Kemp has any interest in disrupting the NBPP in Georgia or anywhere else. He’s just looking for another opportunity for a conservative sound bite that will squeeze another vote or two out of the electorate.
Abrams on the other hand has no interest in squelching her supporters, the more they rear their ugly head the more stature she gains. The attitude displayed, and methods used, by the coming generation of politician/activist/victim will further polarize the nation. Sides are being formed, lines are being drawn, and attitudes firmed in. It’s not going to be pretty, but one thing is for sure…it’s going to be.
