Taxes: The Great Conspiracy

I’m very pleased with how my pepper jelly turned out. If you get the opportunity you should crank up a batch. Even if you must purchase the peppers, it’s worth the relatively inexpensive cost. The recipe I used was my own that was created/mandated by what the first fruits of the garden were.
I used:
3/4th cup of banana peppers
1/2 cup jalapenos
1 and 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
5 cups of sugar
6 oz (two packages) of liquid pectin
It seems a little stiff coming out of the jar, but once ‘dolloped’ over a pile of cream cheese it has a perfect consistency. It’ll keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks or, if you’re like me, you can it by leaving 1/4 inch headspace and 10 minutes in a water bath.
The heavens opened up yesterday afternoon and we got a soaking rain that lasted for about 4 hours. I had just finished my second fertilization of the tomatoes and peppers (and egg plant) with a liquid 12-55-6 mix by Scotts. The Miracle Grow I used two weeks ago was 24-8-16. Here is what these two sets of numbers mean: the first set provides relatively more phosphorous (55) and contributes much more to blossoms and fruit production. The second set provides more (again relatively) nitrogen (24). Increased Nitrogen will cause the plants to focus more on growth and leaves.
The rain hosed up my opportunity to gather more blackberries and harvest more blueberries. The rain was hard enough to knock most of the ripe blueberries off of the bushes; I’ve got 4 cups in the fridge and need another 3 to make a batch of jam. As far as blackberries go, I went out on Saturday and gathered a quart. If the weather holds off today I hope to be able to gather enough for a batch of Blackberry Jam today.
I’ve been pulling in the basil and cranked up some pesto: that’s good stuff as well. I’ve planted twice as much basil this year as last, so hope to be able to get some of this into the freezer for a reminder of the summer once winter rolls around.
We are down to a dozen or so pints of salsa and we are almost a month away from having the garden produce all of the peppers, garlic, cilantro, and tomatoes needed. I did not plant oregano this year (an oversight) so that’s another purchase that could have been avoided by a little better planning.
Here’s the latest guess from the hacks at the weather bureau. What I make from this is the sun still rises from day to day and each day is what we make of it !

People are stupid: that’s not going to change anytime soon. People are so stupid the interwebs are full of stories, confessionals if you will, of white folk falling on their swords for the supposed sins of some long dead man; for a philosophy that played out on its lack of merit some few hundred years ago.
None the less, we are all being encourage to be more like the ‘good whites’ who grovel before their new black lives matter masters. Not my cup of tea, but it seems that this novel approach to ‘peace in our lifetime’ is quickly catching on.
I have little hope for a resurrected American civilization rooted in conservatism.
With all that’s going on in our brave new world, I can’t help but wonder what the end-state will look like. Will the nation still be the land of the free, home of the brave? Will it be a democracy, a socialist democracy?
One thing for certain is that the logic challenged idiots that are hellbent for change have no interest in having a society that closely approximates the status quo. The real bad news in all that is going on is it looks like the idiots will prevail. Plan accordingly.
And for those that are taking to the streets, here is an old Spock (Star Trek) line: “You may find that having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting. This is not logical, but it is often true.”
Great news out of Yankee Land, after voting to defund/disband the Minneapolis police, members of the city council are allocating private security to support their personal comfort levels.
As for the rest of you slobs that no longer have a police force for protection, you are on your own.
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – The City of Minneapolis is spending $4,500 a day for private security for three council members who have received threats following the police killing of George Floyd, FOX 9 has learned.
A city spokesperson said the private security details have cost taxpayers $63,000 over the past three weeks.
The three council members who have the security detail – Andrea Jenkins (Ward 8), and Phillipe Cunningham (Ward 4), and Alondra Cano (Ward 9)– have been outspoken proponents of defunding the Minneapolis Police Department.
Councilmember Phillipe Cunningham declined to discuss the security measures.
“I don’t feel comfortable publicly discussing the death threats against me or the level of security I currently have protecting me from those threats,” said Cunningham in a text message.
Cunningham added that the security is temporary.
Councilmember Andrea Jenkins said she has been asking for security since she was sworn in. She said current threats have come in the form of emails, letters, and posts to social media.
“My concern is the large number of white nationalist(s) in our city and other threatening communications I’ve been receiving,” wrote Jenkins in an email.
Councilmember Cano did not return messages seeking comment.
Minneapolis mayors have traditionally had a security detail provided by a Minneapolis Police officer who also functions as the mayor’s driver. The thirteen council members are not given the same protection.
Asked why Minneapolis Police are not providing security services to the three council members, a city spokesperson said MPD resources are needed in the community. The hourly cost of private security is similar to the cost for a police officer, the spokesperson added.
A spokesperson for Minneapolis Police told FOX 9 the department does not have any recent police reports of threats against city council members. It is possible a report could have been filed confidentially.
Jenkins said she has not reported the threats to Minneapolis Police because she has been preoccupied with the dual crisis of the “global pandemic and global uprising” over the killing of George Floyd.
Jenkins said the threats have attacked her ethnicity, gender identity, and sexuality.
We did get a good amount of slow steady rain for the last few days and the coming week looks promising as well.
The blueberries are hitting on all cylinders and I’m picking off ripe berries and canning them into delicious jam every other day. I’ll be picking and canning again today. I’ve put up 24 half pint jars from the three batches thus far, about half of what I’d like to have on hand for eat’n and for gift’n.
The jalapeno’s are at the point where some will need to come of the plants soon. I’ll be putting these up as slices and as an important ingredient when salsa making time rolls around (another month?). Right now I’m looking at making some pepper jelly out of them. I’ve gathered several good recipes all of which call for bell peppers (which are rare in my garden right now) and none of which call for banana peppers (of which there are some few more), so I’ll be experimenting some as I put these up.
My excuse for not posting yesterday is/was the mowing and weed-eating of the front fence line; about 1600 linear feet. The mowing part is easy, trimming under the barb wire and around the T-posts could have been a pain in the ass if it were not so beautiful out. The posting will be less numerous than in the past as I’m making an earnest attempt to avoid shallow political memes; I’ll still throw up a particularly poignant one (or more) if they are enlightening or humorous.
Y’all be careful out there
Truth is:
Little bitch says:
NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace says he’s “pissed” members of the public are now questioning his integrity after the FBI said a noose found in his garage stall this week was there before his team moved in.”
“I’m mad because people are trying to test my character and the person that I am and my integrity,” he told CNN’s Don Lemon Tuesday night.”
Talking to Lemon, Wallace said the image he saw of “what was hanging in my garage is not a garage pull.” **
“It was a noose,” Wallace said. “Whether tied in 2019 or whatever, it was a noose. So, it wasn’t directed at me but somebody tied a noose. That’s what I’m saying.”
On Tuesday night, he said he continued to stand by what he said.”
“This will not break me, none of the allegations of being a hoax will break me or tear me down,” he said.”
“It will piss me off, absolutely. But that only fuels the competitive drive in me to shut everybody up,” he added.”
So NASCAR was so damn quick to blame/abandon their fans for a few minutes in the ‘I’m also woke’ lime light that they quit any pretense of reason or rationality. What a joke. Defund the bastards.
** If I’m reading this correctly, Wallace never even saw the rope, just a picture of the rope. What a lousy victim !
They’re hard at work over at Drudge. The masters want chaos and far be it for Drudge to not immediately go to their knees to comply.
What a sad, sad, state of affairs for our once free press.
Meanwhile, I get the follow from a reader in Arizona:
Hey Garry

The 51st saying in the Gospel of Thomas
Genesis 1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
John 1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not
The “and the darkness comprehended it not’ of John sounds a whole lot like the “but you do not know it” of Thomas.
Just a thought, and in the same simple vein, doesn’t ‘the spirit of God moved on the face of the waters” make this world his kingdom?
I converted the Blueberries I picked yesterday into jam today. It’s made from the simplest of recipes: 7 cups berries (crushed to 5), 6 cups sugar, a package of pectin and a quarter cup of lemon juice. This produced 8 half pints of the great tasting jam. This was water bath canned for 10 minutes.
In the morning I’ll place it along side of the three types of orange marmalade I’ve put away; one from Naval oranges, one from a mix of Naval and Valencia oranges, and one made from ‘blood’ oranges.
I drove out to where I know blackberries are growing to see if the rain has helped them to plump up some: yea, kinda/sorta helped but it’s going to take a couple of more days of occasional rain to get them into good condition. Maybe by the first week in July the crop will be mature and I can go pickin !
The advances in information technology sometimes leave me feeling like I’m a babe lost in the woods. I’ve been battling a number of attacks on this website over the last several weeks. I’ve not won the war but believe that I’ve found a way to keep the barbarians from the gates.
Thanks to all who have written. I’m good.
The garden is going like gangbusters. I’ve got 40 Roma’s in this year (twice as many as last year) and I’ve put a lot of time into keeping them pruned. Last year I lost quite a bit of crop to pest and pestilence; something that could have been mitigated by having good airflow and sunshine. I’ve planted both Bessers (cherry) and Bonny Best for salads, sandwiches, and dehydrating.
I picked Blueberries some this afternoon and have exactly enough (7 cups) for the first batch of Blueberry Jam. I was/am worried about the wild Blackberries because so little rain has fallen in the last two weeks. We had several passing showers today and the promise of more in the coming days so I’m hopeful we’ll get enough moisture to get them fat and juicy.
Anyway, thanks again to all who sent along well wishes. I’m still fat and happy!
It seems that the Indians decided that a boycott of Chinese goods was warranted, after all they are clubbing each other along the border. That boycott may be short lived however; it turns out that Chinese imports have destroyed the competition. A fate soon to be realized by Americans? Here are a few of the more poignant realities Breitbart noted:
At India’s biggest wholesale market in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar, which has nearly 40,000 shops, almost everything on the shelves — toys, electronics, watches, home appliances – is made in China.
70 percent of electrical items come from China. On those items made in India, the components parts are of Chinese origin.
Calling for a boycott of Chinese companies would prove disastrous, the entire smartphone ecosystem will collapse and thousands of Indian jobs will be lost.
China has no qualms about cheating and stealing their way to world domination. It’s going to take quite a jolt to wean the American public away from the cheep goods that threaten mankind’s freedom. I personally don’t believe our society is up to the task !
‘Become passers-by. ‘ (Gospel of Thomas #42)
It was said long ago that soil easy to till (soft soil) produced intellectually poor men. I guess the idea behind that thought was that character was improved through adversity.
Here we can see the societal result of children raised in soft soil.
I’m tempted to add a bottom line to this, to say something profound about the nature of man or the tempest within society. Methinks that this is not ‘bottom line time’ just yet though; that time will approach when the anglo’s kick off the white power parades and the cities burn in earnest.
It’s pretty tough trying to find something in the dark. There maybe landmarks but they are near impossible to find. That’s the way I feel sometimes when I search for information on the Gospel of Thomas; like I’m stumbling around in the dark looking for direction and finding nothing but the scribes/pharisees characterized in Saying 39.
Despite the challenges, stumbling, and false starts, sometimes, just sometimes, a little light shines and,, forever how briefly, we are able to see a little clearer. Even if that clarity moves us along just a short ways, it is a welcomed and worthy reward.
I stumbled across a great article that examines the relationship between the Gospel of Thomas and the synoptic gospels with an emphasis on the Gospel of John . The author (Seth Clark) also examines the most probable time of it’s writing and explains that the purpose of Thomas is significantly different than the synoptic writings. His concluding remarks are:
I propose that the dating for the majority of GTh is between 55 and 90 AD. The
composition of the text is based on teachings of Jesus collected in Jerusalem after Jesus’ death. This core was developed on the road by itinerant Christians who spent time in Damascus, Syria and took the text to Egypt, where it was translated into Coptic.
If the dating of GTh is correct, then the idea that Jesus was fully divine and fully human who granted access to the Divine is much earlier than most scholars think. If this is paired with the radical offer to become the “twin of the living Jesus” and effectively achieve deification, then GTh represents a variety of Christianity that engaged people outside of ecclesial authority and provided a spiritual path with the greatest reward of all: being a complete reflection of God and sharing in Divine perfection as a “twin of Jesus.”
1 May is the average last frost day at my place. Experience has shown that if I put anything that can be harmed by frost into the ground before then, I’ll end up scrambling to get a heavy layer of straw over whatever that might be. Almost always, that will end up being tomatoes and peppers. They are typically out of control before the temps stabilize.
I’m a slow learner, but I got it. 1 May. 27 days from now.
I’ve put a couple of days into rehabilitating my garden plot. Here is a picture I took today of one of my three raised bed areas. It’ll take a day or so to bring this back up to snuff. I could take less time, but the small tiller has given up the ghost again and so each of these 10 beds will need to be turned by hand.
When I get done it’ll look like the area I’m currently working in (below). That little tiller is perfect for lifting into and out of the boxes (when the son-ofa-bitch runs).
I’m thinking that we are past the point where we could get a hard freeze, so I reestablished the water supply to the garden and watered those things that I have in the ground. The lettuce is coming along, I’ve got 5 varieties going.
Strawberries were happy to get a sprinkle of cool water as well. These are a ever-bearing and will produce throughout the summer
Everything is beginning to flower, the strawberries above, the thyme below, and I’ve got so many bees on my blueberry bushes I’m afraid to go near them! I’ve even had one of my apple trees show off a bloom…..just one.
The Thyme (above and below) is getting ready to get some company; oregano. I’ve carved out a space in the box where the garlic and thyme is, dirtied up the soil (if that makes sense) and lined it off with rocks.
Those four blocks in the center of the photo below are seeded with oregano. There’s maybe 25 or 30 plants.
All of those things I had in the mini-green house needs to be replanted. I’ve got my red solo cups all loaded with soil and lights erected.
I may have waited a day or two too long, as some of the seedling are getting ‘leggy’ . Those long legged guys below are cabbage! I’ve replanted most everything that got this far along, buried them up to nearly their leaves in a solo cup..
So now the little mini-greenhouse will be reloaded with the next batch of goodies for the garden: I’m thinking cantaloupe, watermelon, zucchini, eggplant, pattypan squash. Just thinking about cool, fresh, juicy cantaloupe makes the whole garden experience worth it!.
Y’all enjoy your quarantine and pray for those that are away from their loved ones at this time. It’ll be over soon enough and we will all be eating cantaloupe.
There is a great series of photo’s over at Eye Of Photography by an artist who moved his family onto a houseboat to escape the worries of the city. What a great practiced ‘eye’ this artist has. His words below.
At least we are happy to have a movable house. We left the city full of virus trouble towards the woods just outside of town. We feel safe here and are free to move within family limits. It feels like our little springtime corona paradise.
A great series of photos over at The Daily Time-Wasters. Worthy of a look
Many of the writings of the new and old testament can be dated by the authors awareness (or lack thereof) of events related to the construction and destruction of the First and Second Temples. Here is the timing on those two events:
After the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 BCE, the Jews of the Kingdom of Judea went into exile. In 538 BCE during the reign of Cyrus the Great, the Jews returned to Jerusalem and were able to build the Second Temple on the site of the original one that had been destroyed.
Secular accounts place the completion of the Second Temple in approximately 516 BCE but some Jewish sources date the completion much later in 350 BCE. Herod the Great rebuilt the Temple in 20-18 BCE.
The Jews led a revolt and occupied Jerusalem in 66 CE initiating the first Roman-Jewish war. In 70 CE the Romans reclaimed Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple with only a portion of the western wall remaining (though recent archeological discoveries date portions of the wall to later periods).
From Breitbart:
King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn is currently self-isolating from the Chinese coronavirus in a luxury hotel in Germany with an entourage of 20 concubines and female servants, local reports claimed this week.
While the majority of hotels in Germany are closed as a result of the nationwide quarantine, the 67-year-old is believed to have booked out the entire Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl in the Alpine resort town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen after local officials gave him “special permission” to do so, according to the German tabloid Bild.
Rather than isolate alone or with close family members, Vajiralongkorn moved in a team of 20 concubines and female servants. His planned entourage of over one hundred people was reportedly scaled down after 119 members were sent back to Thailand amid suspicions they had contracted the virus.
It is unclear if any of the king’s four wives are in the hotel with him. Although the hotel would not provide specific details of the party, a local official told Bild that authorities had approved his stay because “the guests are a single, homogenous group of people with no fluctuation.”
News of Vajiralongkorn’s exploits was poorly received back in his kingdom, with people violating the country’s lèse-majesté laws by criticizing him on social media. Under Thai law, those found guilty of criticizing the monarchy face up to 15 years imprisonment.
Surprisingly, I had cabbage appear in the seeding tray last night. Hard to believe that what should have taken 10-15 days to appear, showed up in 2. I started 10- seeds of two types: ‘Early Golden Acre‘ and ‘Ferry’s Round Dutch‘. The former is an early variety that harvests in 60 days, the later in 71. Again, my thoughts are to put out more than I need in case the sky falls in and we ramp up the number of folk that garden needs to support. Cabbage can be stored for a couple of years if fermented (sauerkraut) and canned so what isn’t immediately needed will be available for the next crisis.
All of the pepper’s are up and growing in the tray except the California Wonder (green bell pepper). I’ll be moving these into solo cups this week to make room in my mini-greenhouse for the many other seeds that need to be hurried along.
I drove into Redstone Arsenal yesterday to collect the wife’s meds. They have kinda/sorta figured out how to do drive by distribution. It was slow and clumsy but I felt much better about collecting them that way then walking into a crowded facility where everyone was sick. The Asian market is about 4 miles from the Arsenal, so I stopped by there and picked up some more kimchi sauce and a Korean Radish for another batch.
I got a note from Victory Seed Company this morning letting me know that my most recent order has shipped. This will get me egg plant, dill, Napa lettuce, and arugula (alternative to basil for pesto) and a few other things.
Now if the weather will just cooperate, I could get all of the beds conditioned and primed tor a great gardening season.
WASHINGTON — Mayor Muriel Bowser is threatening residents of Washington, DC, with 90 days in jail and a $5,000 fine if they leave their homes during the coronavirus outbreak.
The threat of jail is alarming residents and civil libertarians who point out that at least five inmates tested positive for COVID-19 in the city’s 1,700-inmate jail near Capitol Hill.
“Our message remains the same: stay home,” Bowser, a Democrat, said in a statement Monday. The stay-home order has exceptions for grocery shopping and work deemed essential. Outdoor recreation such as running is allowed, but cannot involve people outside of a household.
The order is similar to dictates in neighboring Maryland and Virginia, but shocked residents of Washington, where there are just 401 of the nation’s 160,000 confirmed cases.
There was a time not long ago when all of the conspiracy theorists were certain that our government would soon be rounding up folk and placing them in FEMA camps. How silly. Why create camps when they can force you into your own home and have you queue alike a trained seal.
